Hicks (Louise Day) is born in South Boston.

The daughter of Judge William and Anna (McCarron) Day, Louise Day Hicks attends Boston public schools, and graduates from Wheelock College, and Boston University, University School of Law. She marries John Hicks in 1942, lives in her childhood home at 1780 Columbia Road, and establishes a law practice with her brother John in 1956. Hicks serves on the Boston School Committee (1962-68), where she becomes an ardent opponent of court-ordered busing to achieve school desegregation. She runs unsuccessfully for mayor (1967* and 1971*), and serves in the U.S. House of Representatives (1971-73), and on the Boston City Council (1970, 1974-78, 80-81). Hicks dies in South Boston on October 21, 2003, and is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
